FAQs for Studio Classes

Our flagship Institute is Mumbai-based to maintain the highest standards of instruction to each student. Our Founder Terence Lewis began the Institute because he felt the need to provide the highest quality of training to aspiring dancers. To this day, he personally oversees every aspect of the teaching. While opening franchises across the country would be a sensible business plan, we need to ensure that quality does not suffer. We have limited our Institute to a Mumbai location only, so that Master Terence and our Program Head Mahrukh Dumasia can continue to visit regularly, and pay personal attention to the workings of the Institute.

Like all metropolitan cities, the cost of living in Mumbai is high. However, we can provide a list of affordable pg accommodation/flatsharing in the Andheri area (not too far from the Institute) where many of our students have stayed.
Mumbai is considered India’s safest for women!

We focus on providing the best quality training to those who intend to take dance up professionally. Our facilities are constantly maintained to ensure the health and well-being of the students. We have air-conditioned studios,  proper sprung wooden floors (that are instrumental in minimizing impact and preventing injury).
We also provide the best instructors to teach you. They have all been hand-picked and personally trained by Master Terence himself. We also  invest in each instructor’s personal growth, giving them scholarships and workshops to ensure that their dance and teaching skills are up-to-date. All our faculty have received international training and many have received multiple awards or full scholarships at prestigious dance schools and workshops. See the Faculty page for more information .

Master Terence takes two sessions as part of the DPLC course and may choose to mentor a piece for the DIDFC students. He is given regular updates on students’ progress and attends the presentation when both courses end.

The DPLC course is an entry-level course and is open to all, even those who have never danced before! We recommend some previous dance experience for DIDFC, since it is an intensive course and does require certain fitness levels and stamina, not to mention natural dance talent.

TLCDC has been awarded the title of ‘India’s Number 1 Dance Company’ a number of times.  There are many criteria to join the company, but a firm technical grounding is mandatory.  The Performance Scholarship Programme is an internship with TLCDC and deserving DIDFC students may be selected for this, based on aptitude and performance. If you complete the PSP successfully, you may be offered a permanent contract with the Company, and live the life of a professional dancer travelling to perform at elite events through the country and across the world!

As a DPLC student…

  • You could apply for our DIDFC programme to train further and eventually embark on a professional dance career.
  • Many ex-students of the DPLC course audition for dance reality television shows… You could be the next winner of Dance India Dance or So You Think You Can Dance!
  • Others take up acting or join the film and/or entertainment industry as junior artists… You could be featured in Karan Johar’s next blockbuster hit!

    Completed DIDFC? Congratulations!

You could be a Rising Star at TLCDC!

  • Our Performance Scholarship Programme selects deserving candidates to work with the Company! You may be invited to train further as an intern with the Terence Lewis Contemporary Dance Company.
  • You could end up, over a period of time, as a Company Member, performing with Terence Lewis in shows all over India and across the world.
  • Talented and dedicated? You could continue to rise in the Company, eventually becoming one of the company’s assistant choreographers and rehearsal directors. You could create and direct shows along with the Master himself!
  • At TLCDC, you will continue to get free training to develop your own art. You will attend workshops with the best international teachers and could win scholarships to train all around the world!
  • You could also become one of the instructors at TLPTI – mentoring students and shaping future dancers! If you have the aptitude to teach, we will give you special training as a dance teacher – and you could end up as the assistant to our Head of Professional Courses, a prestigious post at the Institute!
